Very Interesting…ummmmmm

While checking out all the Photo Hunters pictures this morning, I found this and (you know me), I just had to give it a try. Now that I’ve done it, I’m not sure I like what it had to say…but it’s all in fun.

My Peculiar Aristocratic Title is:
Her Noble Excellency Beckie the Lackadaisical of Bumswick by the Hole

Of particular interest is a new (to me) blog I discovered several weeks ago. The name is ShadowLight and the author is Sombra Knight. I say author because that’s what he is~and a very good one at that! He’s also a professional musician and an artist. If you like to read something very special, he also participates in another blog called Crossings. He, Sheila and Alix are writing a continuing story. Venture over there and check it out.

Just have a couple more things to say but Blogger won’t let me upload graphics now! So, you’ll have to just imagine…two glittery balls going up in the air, bursting and the words Happy New Year floating down. And the other one was a cute country snowman that said “Please let it snow!” Yes, Colorado has gotten all our snow this year! I’m sure they wish they could share some with us.

Happy New Year!!!!

2006 Christmas Memories

What a wonderful Christmas we had. Our Sunday School lesson on Christmas Eve was about passing the baton. John, our leader that day, compared our responsibility as parents to the sprinters in a relay race. The reason teams with the fastest sprinters fail to win is in the passing of the baton~they run into each other or they drop it. Our responsibility as Christian parents is to pass the baton smoothly to our children in order for them to grow in love for the Lord. It was a very good analysis.

Later Christmas eve, we had R’s step-daughter here and we all opened our gifts. Ashlynn is only 11 months old and wasn’t able to grasp how to open her gifts even though Daddy was right there ripping away. Next year! I think another reason for her lack of enthusiasm was the fact that she hadn’t had a nap all day. Naomi even got in on the act! Then it was time to go home.

Christmas morning arrived with everyone sleeping in late~the advantage of no small children. Once everyone was ready, we made the short trip to Granny’s house. As mentioned previously, Hubby has six brothers and sisters and all have children. Three adults did not make it this year due to prior obligations and they were missed. Granny decorates every room in her home and very seldom is it ever the same. We got to meet our great-nephew~Ben. Rachel’s cousin had a baby boy just two weeks prior to Kelsey’s arrival.

After a wonderful meal, almost entirely prepared by Granny, the children went to the basement to open all their gifts~chaos ensued. Since I’ve been involved in the enthusiasm for 23 years, I decided to stay upstairs. Once this excitement died down, it was time for the adult chaos to begin. We had our Chinese Gift Exchange and MOST seemed satisfied with their gifts, although some were quite disappointed~especially after they had lost the gift they had already “stolen.” One gift was actually a regift from last year’s Gift Exchange. I’m not sure how, but we ended up with it and it may just be there again next year! LOL

Work(s) in Progress

Thanks to a very special person, my blog may be visible again. Without going into all the details, just let me say that an individual (who shall remain nameless~for the time being) has taken on the horrendous task of “fixing” my template. As I understand it, you can now see it if you use Firefox ~ which is the BEST ~ but not too good in IE or Netscape and not at all in Opera. Thank you…..(you know who you are)!

Now I’m going to brag a little bit. Many of you know that our oldest daughter got married in June and she and her hubby are expecting ~ the due date is TOMORROW. Can you imagine a better Christmas present. Not only has R been adjusting to being married (and living with us), coping well with the pregnancy discomforts, but she has also been continuing her college education ~ studying to be an RN. Last week she had her exams and got an A in each of her courses. She took (among others) American Sign Language and Spanish both of which will be tremendous benefits later.

I was never very good in school~mostly just getting by. However, I did do well in the subjects that followed my career choice~a legal secretary. So to see her do so well has been such a blessing to me. Of course her Dad was in the top 10% of his high school graduating class. Next semester she will be taking most of her classes over the internet.

Our youngest daughter has also struggled with school but is doing very well in a government-funded (through HUD) program called Youth Build. It is specifically designed to assist those youngsters who have fallen through the cracks academically. It was unquestionably a God send because they contacted her~we didn’t even know about it. Yesterday she announced that she has been certified in Red Cross First Aid and CPR~who knows, maybe she’ll go on to be an EMT! I am equally proud of C.

Sometimes around Christmas, I get discouraged because we aren’t financially able to do for others what I would like to. I found myself getting that way again this year. But once God showed me (AGAIN) what he has done for me and my family and how truly blessed we are, my heart is full to overflowing! We have enough to pay our bills, we all have excellent health (although sometimes I question our mental health-LOL) and we’re all together. Hubby and I have been married for 23.5 years and are just as happy as when we first got married.

Praise be to God for His goodness!
