Appetizer
On average, approximately how many times per day do you yawn? Probably too many times; but I’ve been told that yawning doesn’t indicate sleepiness, it indicates a lack of oxygen. Maybe when you get sleepy, you don’t breath as deeply. Who knows!

What was your most memorable school field trip? I guess it would have to be my Senior class trip to DC. Although it was soooooo long ago, I don’t rememeber much of it except the crazy trip home!

Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday: What Beckie is thankful for this week

I’m thankful for the rain we had. There has been much damage and several deaths from the storms that ravaged the East and Northeast and I pray for all those who suffered loss because of it.

Many of us in this small community and surrounding counties have vegetable gardens not just to eat fresh vegetables but for preserving too. We have wells to rather than “city” water which will run dry without rain. There are also many farms in this part of the country and we all know what happens when those farmers don’t get rain.

We needed the rain and so did the local farmers. There is a blessing that came with the losses.

Monday Memories

Finally, I’m able to post a MM again. We don’t need to go into all the details about why I haven’t been here and for that I apologize. So let’s get going.

Going to Visit My Grandparents…

I remember “Grandmother”. Yes, my mom asked me to call her mom Grandmother so that’s what I did. She died when I was 8 and I still remember (51 yrs. later) what it felt like to touch her. She was cold and felt like a statue. She died from complications of diabetis.

I remember how excited I was as we drove the hour-or-so trip to visit. It always seemed to take such a long time to get there. Of course, I would also get to visit my only girl cousin who lived near Grandmother.

There wasn’t much to do except explore. My favorite place in her house was her kitchen. She was always cooking when we got there and it was always delicious. Occassionally she would let me “cook” with her. Then I loved going into her pantry to see all the goodies.

Usually after dinner, my Grandfather would take me out to his garage (just a shed really) and I’d hop into his old Model A. Up the road we travel to my cousin’s house. That was the best ride of my life.

My cousin, my aunt and uncle lived over their store. Oh boy! You can imagine what those visits were like. Anything in the store I wanted, I could have. My mom used to say that drinking those sodas was what made me get fat. Oh well.

The store was really fun. There was kind of a sitting room in the back where customers could gather and visit with an old pot-bellied stove. All along the walls were collections of arrowheads which had been set into various shapes. I was just fascinated by it all.

“Those were the good ole days.” I sometimes wish we could go back to living that way when life was much slower, but then I wouldn’t be blogging would I?

What do you do/take when you are in pain? Usually an Alieve will do the trick unless it’s a sinus headache, then I’ll take Tylenol Sinus.

How About 101%

I found this awesome post at no_average-girl and thank her for letting me use it!

From a strictly mathematical viewpoint:

What equals 100%? What does it mean to give MORE than 100%? Ever wonderabout those people who say they are giving more than 100%? We have all been in situations where someone wants you to give over 100%. How about achieving 101%? What equals 100% in life?

Here’s a little mathematical formula that might help you answer these

Questions:

If:

Is represented as:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26.

Then:

H-A-R-D-W-O-R- K

But,

God is soooooo good!

Just when it seems you “can’t take it any longer” God sends the rain! For the middle of June, we’ve been having some extremely HOT weather! Yesterday morning I was hanging clothes on the line–nothing strenuous–and the (sorry to be so blunt) sweat was rolling.

All the fans in the house were going but by dinnertime it was almost unbearable. We only have one window AC for our son-in-law who works at night and sleeps during the day.

Finally, the storm clouds rolled in and we had a thunderstorm. Not serious but the cool air was quite a welcome relief!

God works in the same way in our troubles…just when it seems you can’t go through this trial any longer, he sends RELIEF! Even if it’s just in the form of a hug. Recently we lost a very dear friend who was a 76 year old believer. This morning I found in my email a copy of a letter from the widow’s brother:

The literal and figurative hugs (through visits, meal preparation/serving, cards, hospital visits, etc.) extended to my sister and her children helped so very much, and I just wanted to say “thanks” for being there for them in this hour of need. God bless you all.

Let God use you to bring some relief in someone’s life today. Even if it is just a {{{{hug}}}}
